Hi I'm Louby and I'm a Food Addict...
... a completely self confessed food addict, anything so long as it's not nuts or bananas I'll eat it! And if it's sweet and of a cake variety, better still! Although, I do try to keep at least one eye on the calories, although sometimes it's hard to resist!
From an early age, baking has been a passion of mine. Growing up with my Granny
living with the family, there was never a shortage of fresh food and
baking in the house. I can vividly remember my brother and I baking with her, and then arguing over who got to scrape
out the reminder of the cake mix, out of the mixing bowl. Every day we'd come home from school to the smell of a freshly baked meat pie or jam tart, and on occasion to batches of hundreds of mince pies and scones for school
fetes. It's no wonder that I caught the food bug that evolved into a life-long love of food and being in the kitchen. In fact, there's no where that I can think of, where I do not feel as close to her than when I'm stood mixing bowl and wooden spoon in hand. I know that if she was still with Us, Granny would be helping me with new ideas. She's inspiration and spirit!
Happy Times...
So, it came to pass that in December 2008 my Baby Brother asked his lovely girlfriend of 8 years to marry him; she said 'Yes' and it was with that and my passion for being in the kitchen that I volunteered to make their wedding cake; they both said 'Yes' too! And so, it was with this adventure in hand, that Happy Food started to take shape.
Happy Food is my personal blog chronicling my adventures, and sometimes misadventures in the kitchen with my beloved Magimix and the world of food, with a good strong heavy dose of baking and cakes thrown in! The blog was originally intended to act as a diary for my Brother and my future Sister-in-Law to see how my practice was going for November's big day and 'the' cake. But it's turned into something more, I wasn't expecting the number of visitors I've been getting and the response from people has been fantastic that it's just grown and grown since the original idea took shape in February 2009.
Not only does Happy Food let me completely indulge in my passion for food and baking, it's helped me meet new people in the world of food; opening my eyes to different styles and tastes and leading to more experimential dishes in the kitchen. And in no way, shape or form do I have any sort of professional experience, everything you see and read is from me channelling that spirit and love of food that I inherited from my Granny, and reading the vast array of cookbooks that adorne my bookshelves. Food blogging has opened me up like a sponge, and I'm just absorbing new and exciting ideas, that I hope to share with you over time as the blog gets bigger!
At the centre of everything, driving me onwards and upwards, is my passion... Food, in any shape or form, using the best-quality
produce, supporting local farmers and producers; but it is baking where
my heart truely lies. There is nothing more pleasing and rewarding than the smile on a friend's face when you deliver beautiful handmade cakes as a just because, and the sensation of pure happiness as the true flavours of a homebaked cake take over...
